Colorful Ronin

Hihio,

time for another finished miniature, even it is thursday.

You might ask: What about the Tutorial Voting from this week?
Well, you will find the article tomorrow - so it is still time to vote your choice!

This time the model is done by Roman. It is a workshop miniature that he has started during a painting class with the jungle's good friend Alfonso Giraldes.

The class itself was awesome and a lot of new painting influance and spirit got Roman. Well, as the model here was a subject of learning, studying and testing Roman thought of never finishing it, but finally he did.

Roman likes to call the project a study in color, light/shadow and contrast. He is officially saying to not care about blending quality and other technichal aspects in this project. Just color. Hope you like him!

... and a little history lesson with Roman again, shall we?

"Ronin" is the name of Samurais without a master or lord.
Usually a Samurai was bound to a lord by oath for the rest of his life. Sometimes, when the lord died, or the Shogun sentenced his lord out of office the Samurai was without a home, without land, without honor. Sometimes the Samurai became a Ronin because he lost the favour of his master.

Ronin literally means "waveman", you can also translate this with the "wandering man". A homeless samurai with nowhere to go. Travelling, offering their service as henchman, mercenary or bodyguards. Often the population made fun and jokes of Ronins and the people threw salad or potatoes at them. Free you can say but some would say with less honor than a samurai bound to his master. Why? Usually the code of honor of a Samurai says if he lost his master he has to do Seppuku (traditional suicide). Those who did not follow the code of honor often became Ronin. Well, the others with honor obviously died by their own hand. Tschuukk!! Gnarrrrrggglll! SWWWIIISSHHH! Tok!

Cpt Lapesa

Aloa MV readers,

Roman recently finished his first miniature by Freebooter's Fate.
Why now? Why it took so long for him to start a miniature by this brand?
Well, he wasn't drawn to the sculpts of the models so far, but recently - while in a local store - finally a beautiful lady caught his attention.

The model is Big Jenny and he renamed her in "Captain Lapesa".
Roman saw the model and knew he wanted to paint her up as a quite nice looking gaming model.

We hope you like her!
Roman definatly enjoyed the paintjob.

If you are into Freebooter's Fate and want to make this lady yours:
Roman is selling her, check this link or write to him directly via

Evil Viking with two axes

Aloa,

results from Tuesdays tutorial voting are in and you will find Boudica's Step by Step up to the jungle this Friday. It's a rather long article and preparing and writing it takes more time than expected.

So today another painted miniature.
This guy was painted up just for fun by Roman.
It was a gift by Hon during his private coaching back in 2014 and Roman made good use of the attached plastic base of the 28 model, creating a convincing ice river surface with glittering snow on top. Obviously you can call this a rather quick paintjob. Roman forgot the company who made the model, but hopefully Hon reads this and can give him a hint :D

Beside other miniatures painted by the MV Team you can find him on sale! Check it out and if you want to make one of these yours contact us:

Keep on happy painting!
Best Wishes

Imperial Fist Spacemarine

Good Morning Jungle,

today it's Roman with a finished miniature again.
He painted up a Space Marine. Yes, right a Space Marine. While Roman did not take any attempt to touch a GW miniature at all after the Games Day 2013 and his ultrasized Tyranid/Space Marine Diorama until today.

It was just about the time to paint one of these again. Roman said it is amazing how familiar you can get with the shapes of a Space Marine, even you did not paint one for ages. For him it was a true fun paintjob and he let his brush and colors lose.

Roman also prepared a step by step for this guy, which you might find in the next tutorial voting.
If you are not aware yet: Massive Voodoo is running the "Year of the Painter 2" and on every Tuesday it is up to you to vote for the article you want to read at the end of the week. If you did not vote this week: here you go!

We hope you like him?

Paint a Space Marine head - Testpost

Hello everyone,

time for another step by step, this time i'll paint a veteran space marine head in the colors of the ultramarines chapter.
The finest warriors of the galaxy!

Hmmm, while i was looking around for stuff needed for this tutorial i noticed my bits box was kinda empty...  no more space marine helmet head.
Now we start painting the base layer with Ultramarine Blue.
Leave spaces or thin lines so you know where to paint the shadows later.
Ultramarin Blue color pigments got shipped over the ocean to europe in the ancient world, that's where the name comes from. (lat. ultramarinus = "over the ocean").

Finished Miniatures... the ultimate test of double headlines!

As i am focusing all my energy at my workbench and enjoy the flow coming back, i already have something finished. A Space Marine Seargent from the Chapter of the Salamanders which has been painted for gaming purposes. I guess he'll soon goes up to ebay - just learning to enjoy painting for myself again for the moment as the last week has been some kind of hell about typing all the time, nothing special but something finished:

Salamander Space Marine Seargent, Games Workshop, 28 mm

He is also up to CMON, if you want to see the same picture there than have a look here!

I did also finish some german infantery stances from the 15 mm game Flames of War as a comission for the use of the gaming table - simple but effective i hope:

A view in my cabinet, shot with lightning from the camera shows both again (click to enlarge):

Nothing more at the moment - i am back at my brush :)

Keep on happy painting!
Regards
Roman
